Our goal is to create a supportive, hands-on environment where children feel empowered to explore, ask questions, and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Kusum Byrd
Program Coordinator
Kusum chose a career in education because she believes a strong educational foundation is the key to a child’s future success. She loves being part of the learning process and helping children reach their full potential. One of her favorite teaching memories is seeing her first preschool class graduate and share their dreams for the future.

At TLC, Kusum is passionate about bringing project-based, hands-on learning to students—sparking curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and building confidence. She values connecting with both children and parents to create an environment where every learner feels seen and supported.

Kusum is a proud mom, lifelong learner, and animal lover with four dogs and three bearded dragons.
Sarah Kayssi
Facilitator
Sarah joined The Learning Canvas with a passion for helping students build confidence and discover the joy of learning. She creates a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, explore new ideas, and embrace challenges.

With years of experience, Sarah has guided students from hesitant readers to confident storytellers—a transformation she finds deeply rewarding. Known for her empathy and ability to connect with students, she thrives in TLC’s hands-on, collaborative approach.

Outside of TLC, Sarah enjoys exploring archaeological discoveries in Egypt and caring for animals, including her cat and rescued creatures at her family’s sanctuary.
